Creating a Legacy: Healing the Invisible Wounds
My life dramatically changed at the age of 10 years old, we got the call that my mother was found dead. My life is marked by everything that happened before and everything that happened after this life-changing moment. My Annie's Victory grew out this tragedy. When looking at situations of violence, neglect, and addiction we forget about the children caught in the middle. Children who live through such trauma are at serious risk for long-term physical and mental health problems. However many times they are the forgotten victims. I know this not only through working with families but also from my personal experience. While my mother is gone, I strive to live my life in a way to honor her always. I want my life to be spent giving the world a greater understanding of the effects abuse and addiction have on the children who live through these experiences. Since the creation I have been able to partner with a number of local and national organizations to further this mission. Through "Shower with Love" initiative we have supplied over 1,000 personal care kits annual to women and child in the shelters. Annie's Victory is founded in the belief that we are created to be healthy, confident and proud. Locally, I am a proud member of the Junior League of Syracuse, that has a goal is to support at-risk families in at-risk situations, which includes domestic violence. We have raised funds and directly volunteer with programs that impact the Central New York area. Nationally, I am a proud ambassador for the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, whose grant programs and awareness initiatives, focus partly on supporting women's domestic violence shelters and community outreach programs. I act as spokesperson for this organization and also help with fundraising programs. Since 1996, the foundation has granted nearly $74 million to organizations fighting cancer and violence against women. Follow @annies.victory on Instagram to stay up to date |
