Pageant preparation is more than rehearsals, interviews, and perfecting your walk—it’s a transformative journey that can bring immense joy and fulfillment when approached with the right mindset. Here’s how to celebrate every step of the process:
1. Set Your Intentions Start by reflecting on why you’re competing. Is it to share your platform, challenge yourself, or make lifelong connections? Keeping your “why” at the forefront will make every step more meaningful. 2. Celebrate Small Wins Nailing a tough interview question, perfecting a new walk technique, or even balancing prep with your daily life are achievements worth celebrating. Each small win brings you closer to your big moment. 3. Build Lasting Relationships One of the most beautiful parts of pageantry is the friendships you form. Celebrate the support and camaraderie with fellow contestants—cheering each other on makes the journey even sweeter. 4. Focus on Personal Growth Pageant prep is a unique opportunity to grow—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Embrace the confidence you’re building, the skills you’re sharpening, and the person you’re becoming. 5. Practice Gratitude Take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for. Whether it’s your support system, a great workout, or learning something new, gratitude can transform stress into joy. 6. Embrace Imperfections The journey isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being authentic. Mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow—don’t let them steal your joy! 7. Find Moments to Have Fun Pageant prep doesn’t have to be all work. Dance in your heels, laugh during practice, or enjoy your favorite treat after a long day. Joy is found in the little moments! Remember, the crown is just the cherry on top—the real reward is the woman you become along the way. Choose joy in every step of your journey, and you’ll shine brighter than ever on stage! As we prepare for the upcoming pageant season, it’s important to remember that being a titleholder isn’t just about the crown — it’s about impact. One of the most powerful ways we can make a difference is by championing a cause we’re truly passionate about. Having a clear social cause not only amplifies your voice but also connects you with your community, shows authenticity, and strengthens your platform. So, how do you discover what really speaks to your heart? Here are a few questions to reflect on: What breaks your heart or inspires you to take action? Think about a problem in the world or your community that makes you say, “I need to do something about this!” What challenges have you personally overcome? Oftentimes, our most impactful platforms stem from our own life experiences and the lessons we’ve learned. Who or what has had the biggest influence on your life? Perhaps there’s a person, event, or organization that shaped you and now inspires your purpose. What could you spend hours talking about or working toward? The things we’re most passionate about naturally hold our attention and energy. Where do you see yourself making a lasting difference? Think about the legacy you want to leave behind. What work could you do that creates ripples of change? Once you’ve identified your cause, don’t be afraid to share it with the world! Use your platform to inspire others, raise awareness, and take meaningful action. What causes are you thinking about? Let’s share in the comments and support each other in finding our purpose! Together, we can create real change. #PurposefulPageantry #FindYourCause #MrsNYAmericaJourney This past weekend was nothing short of magical as I had the immense honor of participating in the It’s a Wonderful Life Festival in Bedford Falls—or as we know it, the beautiful town of Seneca Falls, NY. For anyone who loves the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life, this annual celebration brings the movie to life and reminds us all of the themes that have stood the test of time: hope, perseverance, and community.
Friday: A Day of Launches, Reflections, and Memories The festivities kicked off on Friday with an incredible Press Conference where I had the honor of sharing the stage with some remarkable individuals: Karolyn Grimes (who played "Zuzu Bailey"), Jimmy Hawkins ("Tommy Bailey"), and Donald Collins ("Young Pete Bailey"). Together, we celebrated the launch of Zuzu’s Petals, a new initiative that spreads messages of hope and encouragement—something that resonates deeply with me and my work as an advocate for survivors of childhood trauma. After the conference, I was privileged to serve as a guest speaker. Standing in a room surrounded by It’s a Wonderful Life enthusiasts, I spoke about how the timeless themes of the movie connect to trauma survivors. Just as George Bailey’s journey reminded us of the value of every life, I shared how survivors can rediscover hope, healing, and their own worth even after the darkest moments. It was a deeply moving experience to connect my story to the heart of this classic film. The day ended on a truly heartwarming note at the Preview Dinner, where Monica Capra Hodges shared memories of her grandfather, Frank Capra. Listening to stories about the man behind the masterpiece brought a new level of appreciation for the film and its enduring impact. Sharing a meal surrounded by wonderful company and inspiring conversations was the perfect way to wrap up the evening. Saturday: Honoring Hope and Celebrating Togetherness On Saturday, I was deeply honored to serve as a special guest at the 21st Annual George Bailey Awards. The event highlighted individuals whose contributions bring hope and positivity to their communities—embodying the spirit of George Bailey himself. I spent time helping guests create their own Zuzu’s Petals, spreading messages of hope, encouragement, and resilience. It was a beautiful reminder of how simple acts of kindness can touch hearts and inspire change. And of course, what would a festival be without a parade? I had the absolute joy of participating in the parade through the charming streets of Seneca Falls, surrounded by smiles, cheers, and the infectious holiday spirit. It was a moment I will cherish forever. Sunday: Final Scenes and Lifelong Memories Sunday brought the perfect close to the weekend. I spent the day strolling through town, taking in the sights and sounds of the festival. There’s something magical about Seneca Falls during this time—it truly feels like stepping into Bedford Falls. The highlight of the evening was the Final Scene Dinner, where I was honored to sing Buffalo Gal alongside George Bailey himself! Sharing this special moment brought back all the nostalgia of the movie and was a perfect tribute to a weekend filled with joy, connection, and reflection. A Weekend to Remember Being part of the It’s a Wonderful Life Festival was not only an honor but also a profound reminder of the power of hope, love, and community. The themes of this movie are timeless, and its message continues to inspire—whether it’s helping a neighbor, believing in your own worth, or spreading kindness one "petal" at a time. To those who made this weekend so special, thank you. I left Seneca Falls with a full heart, cherished memories, and a renewed commitment to spreading hope and encouragement in every way I can. Because, as Clarence the angel reminds us, "Each man's life touches so many other lives." It truly is a wonderful life. #ItsAWonderfulLifeFestival #BedfordFalls #ZuzusPetals #HopeHealingAndHappiness #SpreadingKindness #ItsAWonderfulLife “Zuzu’s petals . . . they’re here Bert!”
A press conference with the Actors from “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be held on Friday, December 13 at 10:00 am at 32 Fall St. Seneca Falls, NY. This is the original location of the “It’s a Wonderful Life” Museum which is currently being expanded. The backdrop will be an International Festival of Trees with ornaments and nativity sets from 50 countries as well as plans for the expansion of the Museum. Present to welcome the press and visitors for the 78th Anniversary of “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be Karolyn Grimes (“Zuzu Bailey”), Jimmy Hawkins (“Tommy Bailey”) and Donald Collins (one of the twins who played young “Pete Bailey”). Also present will be Victoria Wejko, Mrs. New York American 2024 who will help launch the national “Zuzu’s Petals Project.” The expanded Museum, scheduled to open in recognition of the 80th Anniversary of the film in December 2026, will include an area where people can take a “Zuzu’s petal” – a symbol of hope – or make a “Zuzu’s petal” to leave as a symbol of hope for someone else. The “Zuzu’s Petals” Project will be launched at the Press Conference asking for people from around the country to make “Zuzu’s Petals” for the expanded Museum. In this way they can provide hope to people they may not even know. These will be available in the expanded Museum for people to take with them During the Festival, there will be “Zusu’s Petals Stations” in five locations where people can be part of the process of spreading hope and the message of “It’s a Wonderful Life” about the value and equal importance of each individual.
